Major Foresight Reports Again
It’s Party Time and the
predictions abound
“The future is
bright”, a familiar sound
Another new leader
for the Blues on the right
Sounding upbeat with
all of his might
A string of
announcements designed to impress
With each new
pronouncement offering much more for less!
The Reds on the left
are beginning to believe
That they’re on the
path of power retrieve
Overall their demeanour
is calmer
Is Captain Hindsight
really Kier Starmer?
What policies to
convince this time will they put?
Or once again shoot
themselves in the foot?
So Major Foresight tell
us what do you see?
Will the future be
brighter for you and for me?
Will the planet be greener,
the atmosphere less warm
Do you see that the
people are in better form?
Will travel be easy,
inexpensive for all?
Or just for the few
making the wrong call?
Major Foresight’s Report
Well I visited
Manchester in 2042
Travelled by train,
but not HS2
That’s almost
finished but don’t be too glum
The North now begins
at the city of Brum
There are carriages
aplenty but a serious lack
Of passengers and
trains that are on the right track
Other folks travel
in driverless cars
Guided by satellites
powered by stars
Directions are given
by electronic voice
Do they know where
they’re going? Do they have a choice?
They might know
their destination I’m not sure quite why
Because every
decision is taken by AI
But I thought “wait
a minute did I take the right way?”
So I thought I would
travel on the left motorway
Full speed ahead the
signs indicated
So maybe this choice
of mine vindicated
I arrived this time
in 2042
And as predicted a
different view
People were happy
travelling on trains
Electric cars and
hydrogen planes
Scooters and bikes
even people walking
Reduced pollution so
now we’re talking
Instead of confusion
and missed business meetings
Coordination and plenty
of comfortable seating
But wait I have to
spread lots of caution
Because we need to
have a sense of proportion
These things that
I’ve seen are simply projections
Of how life could be
if we make right selections
What we hear at the
party conference to be fair
Might just well be a
lot of hot air
But please don’t
despair there are choices to be made
We can all be
determined and try to persuade
Leaders and the
powerful that we must work together
To benefit everyone
and improve the weather
Making decisions not
just feather their nest
Sensible cohesion that
is for the best
So that is the end
of my projections for now
Let’s wait for the
political when why and how
Read my words
carefully, I hope that you do
Because in reality I
haven’t a clue
We wait and see if
they use sticking plaster
Or manage to avoid a
total disaster
